2010 Sivan
Estate Grown & Bottled
El Dorado, CA
Winemaker Notes:
This exotic wine, the first one released under the " Collector's Circle" category which we created for our more distinctive wines, was named after my daughter Sivan.
Sivan is a blend of 45% Zinfandel, 30% Touriga Nacional and 25% Tempranillo. This firmly structured wine has a prolific flavor profile without giving a clue to its varietal composition. You would expect that Zinfandel, the major component of this blend would be readily identifiable due to the inherent richness of its fruity flavors. Touriga Nacional, Portugal's most revered grape variety and by all accounts one of the world's most exotic one, is totally integrated into Sivan without leaving any footprints.
Sivan, the wine, certainly has its own identity (no puns intended). First, it's structured acidity and distinctive fruitiness draws you in, while making it difficult to identify the source of the fruit whether it might be boysenberry or dark cherry. Then you start detecting a profound savory character in the wine integrated with spicy and smoky undertones making you wonder how this fruitiness and savoriness can co-exist in such harmony.
