Our Gallery Collection wines are carefully crafted from our
very best estate grown grapes, receiving extra care and attention throughout
the winemaking process. The barrels are selected to ensure that a Gallery
Collection Wine is the very best expression of varietal character and Sierra
Foothill terroir.
This is our fourth vintage of "Padre & Figlio". Our
first vintage was made from our 2006 production and the second and third were
from vintages 2015 and 2018.
"Padre & Figlio", which translates from Italian as "Father
and Son", is a blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah. Petite Sirah, or Durif in France, is the
result of a cross between the obscure French variety Peloursin with Syrah. Therefore, in this wine Syrah is the father
and Petite Sirah, the son.
The fruit was harvested at the optimum level of
ripeness. The wine was made in our one
of a kind "Submerged Cap Fermentation Tank" that enables maximum extraction
without aggressive treatment of the cap.
This results full body wines that are bold, while elegant and lacking
astringency. The wine was aged for two
years in select French barrels.
Inky dark purple in color the wine has a dense nose of dark
fruit mixed with savory, earthy and smoky aromas. These flavors continue to the
palate and to the long finish adding sage, black olive, and vanilla. The wine has a structured acidity that balances
the chewy tannins
