Winemaker's Notes:
The inspiration to create this wine came to me from a
popular blend called GSM, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, originating
in the Cote du Rhone in Southern France.
In this GST blend, I replaced the Mourvèdre with Tempranillo and Touriga
Nacional
Tempranillo is planted extensively throughout Spain
including Rioja, a wine region in Northern Spain especially known for the
blends of Tempranillo and Grenache. In
other wine regions in Spain, such as the Ribera de Duero, where Syrah is
planted on a large scale, blends of Tempranillo and Syrah are very common. Touriga Nacional is a Portuguese variety,
coming from Porto and used as the primary grape variety in Port wines. Recently it has been approved as a Bordeaux
variety.
This is a very well-balanced wine having an identity of its
own, different than its components. The
very dark red color, an influence from the Syrah and Tempranillo, creates the
expectations of a big wine, which will not be disappointing. Dark
fruit, combined with earthy aromas dominate this wine extending to the palate
and adding, herbal and savory notes.
This big wine stays with you long after it's gone down.
