2016 Due Amici
Estate Grown and
Bottled
California,
Shenandoah Valley
Winemaker’s Notes:
The name “Due Amici” translates from Italian as two friends,
in this case the two varietals Primitivo and Zinfandel that are its major
components. These two varietals, which originated in Croatia, are genetically
identical having the same DNAs. Their
differences arise from the clonal selection process. These differences are significant especially
in the size of the clusters and the individual berries, Zinfandel having large
and tight clusters and large berries, while Primitive has small and loose
clusters and smaller size berries.
We have been making Due Amici almost every year since the
2005 vintage. It has been one of the
most popular of the Gallery Collection wines.
This “Due Amici” has intense aromas of blackberry and black cherry
that carry to the palate adding layers of dark fruit and mocha. This is an elegant wine with a perfect
balance and a long and sustained finish.
