2007 D’Arideaux Rouge
Sierra Foothills, California
Winemaker’s Notes:
D’Arideaux is a
new class of limited production blends containing wines from grape varieties
that grow in different regions in France and that have been aged for a minimum
of 2 years in French barrels and an additional 2 years in bottles before they
are released.
The 2007 D’Arideaux
Rouge consists of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, both Bordeaux
varietals along with Syrah which originated in the Rhone Valley of France. When creating blends, I look for good
balance, compatibility and synergy between the components. I try not
to allow any one component to dominate which sometimes is difficult to achieve,
especially when the blends are made with components having strong attributes
such as in this case.
While the opening of this wine has some Bordeaux
characteristics, the mid-palate remains very mysterious with depth and
complexity that carries through the finish.
This wine has an inky red color and strong berry and mocha aromas that go
all the way to the palate adding savory and smoky notes. The long finish is more of the same with
added baking type spiciness and hints of licorice.
