Winemaker’s Notes:
This is the third vintage of Sierra Legend which is a blend of
Syrah, a Rhone variety, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, both
Bordeaux varieties, and Primitivo originating in Croatia but lately
cultivated mainly in Italy. Creating new blends, especially from
wines that are inherently different is by far the most fulfilling
and exciting part of my job as a winemaker.
The evolution of Sierra Legend from the 2005 vintage to the 2007
has been moving away from a Syrah dominated wine to one that has a
stronger Cabernet identity. While the Primitivo is definitely
contributing fruity notes, it is very much in the background. This
wine opens elegantly with dark berry aromas and hints of cinnamon
spice. On the pallet the dark berry flavor quickly crescendos to
layers of black cherry and plum and finishes with a lingering full
finish chocolate, coffee, orange peel, licorice and spice.
All the grapes used for this wine are Estate grown.
