Winemakers Notes:
Most of the grapes used for making this wine came from a
hillside vineyard owned by Oakmont Vineyards. This is the fifth
year that we are making Syrah from this vineyard and the terroir is
definitely identifiable. We picked the fruit when it was completely
mature and hand sorted it. We delayed the fermentation by two days
and used our Submerged Cap Fermentation Tank that keeps the skins
submerged throughout the fermentation for better flavor extraction
and softer tannins.
This wine has deep red color with a classical Syrah aroma of
black and green peppercorn combined with a woody cedar character.
The dark berry flavors carry to the palate adding layers of cherry
and pomegranate. This well balanced wine is full of bright fruit
and very dry. The wine finishes with a long and lingering finish
adding smoky meaty notes.
